College and University Students

How many colleges and universities are there in Orlando!?! With Rollins College, the University of Central Florida, Full Sail University, Bel Haven, Le Courdon Bleu, Devry, Valencial Community College, Seminole State College, Nova, Capella, etc. here there are invaluable hopes and dreams begun.

You have something to offer the world that no one else can so do not let anything get in the way or anyone tell you otherwise. Find true wisdom.

College is a very important time of life to discover who you are, create good habits, and learn skills to build lifelong relationships. Students often move away from home and live with adjustment issues such as symptoms of depression or anxiety which could be greatly relieved with the help of counseling. This is a time to find habits and coping tools to deal with the ups and downs of life. Roommates often challenge our values, test our character, and reveal our unique personalities. Often we work through issues related to dating and pre-marital sex. We work through questions to find the right career path. We strive to separate from parents to become our own person, a successful, independent, adult.

Discussing and working through issues that may be longstanding and deeply rooted in our families' of origin is something that can be freeing and healing in a confidential setting. Some of the things that hold us back are very painful and knowing that you can talk about them in a safe and confidential environment with a trained professional is important.

I may use role playing, cognitive behavioral therapy, emotional freedom technique, career and personality assessments, a variety of other therapies and techniques along with a lot of listening to help students through this time. Counseling helps you to discover for yourself and become more aware of your own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It helps reinforce what is good and change what is not working for you. What are your goals in life? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? If your life could be perfect when you wake up tomorrow what would that look like?

Give me a call and let's talk it out in therapy and see some results!

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” C.S. Lewis
